The mission of ISI’s Social Justice Impact Project (SJIP) is to secure social justice through the transformation of communities based on cooperativist, collectivist, and collaborative principles.

Our work focuses on

  • Uplifting communities that have been devalued, discounted and dispossessed under current systems of social, economic, and political power
  • Building new economies and wealth based on models of collective ownership that position communities as producers and not just consumers of good and services
  • Aiming for ecological, cultural, and economic sustainability at the intersection of climate justice, racial justice, and land justice

Our approach

  • Amplifying contemporary solutions that are rooted in historical and ancestral practices
  • Using all forms of data to better define and design social justice campaigns and initiatives
  • Developing pilot models to test, analyze and share most impactful strategies
  • Recovering a portion of the institutional wealth that Black and Brown communities created to seed/catalyze social justice efforts that build communities’ financial self-sufficiency
