Project Thorn

Project Thorn finds and funds tangible anti-poaching projects, and increases the awareness of the global poaching crisis.

Belief in the philosophy that if you protect an apex species, you protect all of the other fauna and flora in the ecosystem, our efforts thus far have been focused on projects to curb rhino poaching in South Africa.

Building off of our successful effort to establish and support an anti-poaching horse patrol at Hluhluwe-iMfolozi game reserve in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, our next goal is to place a set of tracking canines, provide all necessary equipment to accompany the dogs (transport and housing kennels, harnesses, protective equipment, tracking collars), arrange vet care, and supply food to fully fund the dogs in their new roles as key members of their APU team.

Why dogs? It has been proven that the use of canines greatly reduces the level and frequency of poaching incidents and incursions on game reserves. The dogs are trained to perform different functions ranging from tracking and apprehending poachers, to detecting contraband, firearms, bullet cases, and even snares.

The mission of ProjectThorn is to fund tangible, identifiable projects that have a significant impact on curbing poaching. We are a volunteer-run organization committed to making every donation make a difference. Please consider making a donation to ProjectThorn – Tangible Help Our Rangers Need.
