Remembering Loren Cole

Dr Loren Cole

Dear Inquiring Systems friends and all friends of Loren,

It is with a saddened heart that we send you this official announcement of Loren Cole’s death. Loren chose Saturday, August 19, 2017, to leave this earthly life. It was a peaceful parting, and Loren shared his wisdom right up to the moment he fell asleep.

Loren did not want a traditional memorial service. The Summer Solstice Gathering Loren hosted in June was his ‘Life Celebration’. However, we are imagining a Winter Solstice gathering this December, coming together and remembering Loren at his favorite time of year. Please watch for your invitation.

A ‘Loren Cole Scholarship Fund’ has been established, and instead of flowers, friends of ISI and Loren Cole are invited to support this scholarship. The purpose of this scholarship fund is to propagate the legacy of Loren Cole and Ecosystemology among the young. If you would like to be a part of this budding program, please designate your donation for the Loren Cole Scholarship Fund. Donations accepted via PayPal on our website or checks to ISI, P.O. Box 2037, Sonoma, CA 95476. If you have other donation methods that you’d like to discuss, please call us at 707-939-3900.

As fortune would have it, a friend of Loren’s and ISI, Paul Ennis, knew about a research project at the University of Washington — studying human composting as an ecosytemological alternative to cremation or burial. Loren loved this idea and chose to take part in this study…truly completing his life’s circle!

The day Loren left, he wrote a poem to all of us:

Gratitude
Closing the circle
State of Reverie
It has been an extraordinary adventure
and I am so very pleased with having had
so many wonderful people in my life
as well as both significant and meaningful relationships
with all other living things.
Respect for all living things
and an embedded connection with them is why
I am nature.
